Is there a cost for Tazama?

Tazama is an open-source application available for public consumption at no charge. Implementing Tazama requires hardware/cloud services to run and someone to support your implementation.  Also, you may want to deploy some custom rules which would take some developer time. You may have existing resources to utilize or hire a system integrator partner. Depending on which direction you take, it could require funds to implement, run and support.

Can anyone use Tazama?

Tazama is an open-source application available for public consumption at no charge.  Tazama is a framework for handling transaction fraud investigations but can be utilized for a variety of use cases.  How the community utilizes the framework is flexible and up to the individual organizations.

What is Tazama's primary mission?

Tazama is an open-source application available for public consumption to help increase trust in financial systems worldwide.  Tazama was developed by the Gates Foundation to help primarily Asia and Africa increase financial inclusion as part of the LevelOne project. In 2024, Tazama joined the Linux Foundation to help reach more communities worldwide. Tazama will work with you no matter where you are based.

Secondly, our mission is to help organizations understand how fraud impacts the global economy all the way down to the microeconomy and individuals. We are available to help provide research, presentations and information around the global fraud crisis.

How do we create custom rules?

Please refer to our official documentation for guidelines on creating and managing custom rules. Details are located in the docs repository on GitHub.

Where is the documentation located?

All Tazama documentation, including setup steps, best practices, and API references, is stored in the docs repository on GitHub.

How do I get access to the repos?

You can view the Tazama repositories at github.com/tazama-lf. If you need specific repository access, reach out to info@tazama.org or the documentation for instructions on requesting permissions.

What infrastructure do I need?
